A gyratory screen, also known as a composite screen, can efficiently screen a wide range of fine and ultra-fine powders and particulate materials by simulating manual screening motions. Its high energy efficiency, high precision, self-cleaning properties, and environmental and energy-saving characteristics have made it a crucial screening and impurity removal device on numerous production lines. To provide a more intuitive understanding of flat rotary screens, today we'll discuss their construction and explain their core functionality.

A gyratory screen consists of a screen box, screen mesh, drive transmission system, support device, inlet and outlet ports, and sealing and dust control systems.

The screen box, typically made of high-quality steel plate, with stainless steel as an option, is responsible for carrying and screening the material. Single or multiple layers (1-3) of screen mesh can be placed inside, depending on the requirements. Each layer is equipped with screen mesh of varying mesh sizes, achieving multi-level material grading.

The screen assembly, a key component, is typically made of materials such as wire, nylon, and polyurethane, offering excellent wear and corrosion resistance. A bouncing ball cleaning device is installed at the bottom of the screen frame, utilizing the impact force generated by the movement of the screen to automatically clean the screen during the screening process.

The drive transmission system is the core component that generates the required rotary motion of the screen. The main motor provides the initial power. A belt connects the motor and the main shaft, reducing speed and transmitting power, while also providing a cushioning effect. The main shaft is fixed to the base frame via a bearing block. The main shaft typically features an eccentric weight. The motor drives the main shaft via the belt, and the centrifugal force generated by the eccentric weight forces the screen to move in a circular motion within the horizontal plane. The support device, the base frame, is firmly mounted on the ground, supporting the entire equipment. Shock-absorbing springs connect the screen body and the base frame. Their functions are to support the weight of the screen body and absorb the significant inertial forces and vibrations generated by the screen body during movement, preventing them from being transmitted to the base frame and the ground, thus providing vibration isolation and stabilizing the equipment. Metal coil springs or more advanced rubber springs are available.

The inlet and outlet ports, located above one end of the screen body, are responsible for evenly directing the screened material onto the top screen surface. The outlet ports on the top layer are used to discharge large impurities that cannot pass through the top screen. The outlet ports on the middle layer (in multi-layer systems) are used to discharge qualified material or intermediate products that have been separated by the middle screen layer. The outlet ports on the bottom layer are used to discharge fine material or small impurities that have passed through the bottom screen layer. Side outlets are optional; some designs allow the oversize material on each layer to be discharged through different outlets on the side of the screen body. The sealing and dustproof system uses silicone or rubber seals between the screen box covers and at the inlet and outlet joints to prevent dust from escaping and protect the working environment. It is also suitable for applications requiring inert gas protection.
